Life on the "Beach"

We have been hitting the "beach" hard for the past week. When I say beach, I mean The South Beach Diet. We started the change last Sunday and we can already feel results. Richard has been doing phase 1 (no carbs at all) and I have been on phase 2 (limited carbs).

Richard has said that his thoughts seem clearer, he has more energy, and his clothes are already feeling looser. I would have to agree too. We have also noticed a drop in our sugar cravings.

On the first three days of the diet, I consumed so much fish that I thought I would grow gills. We went shopping together on Sunday and I gave Richard the task of picking out some fish for dinner that evening. He comes back to the cart with 3 different fish: sashimi tuna steaks, tilapia, and sockeye salmon. Amazingly, it was him who blew the grocery budget and not me.

I had forgotten how much I actually enjoy this diet, at least when you are on phase 2. The food is so fresh and flavorful. We love fresh fruits and veggies, so this is right up our alley. I didn't realize until a few days into the diet how much of a food rut we were in. We were eating the same things over and over and most of it was not what I really wanted to feed my family. I use to be extremely consciences about what came into my home and I put on my table.

Now, I am not saying all this because I think everyone should jump on the South Beach wagon. I am just excited about feeling better and that our hard work is paying off. If you would like more information on the diet, check out there website here.
