Saved for the moment

Richard brought home his work computer. Woo-Hoo!!! I am having severe Internet withdrawal and miss blogging. I don't think you realize how dependent you are on the Internet until you do not have it. I will catch myself having random thoughts or questions about things and think oh, I'll go and look that up. Then reality settles in and I realize I will have to remain dumb and clueless for awhile longer. Dang technology.

Speaking of technology, our computer has officially crashed. We took it to the computer gurus in our school district and they pronounced it dead. Sooo....we have to buy a new laptop. Apparently, 3-4 years is the life span of a $1,000 investment. We had a Compaq but now we are looking at Dells. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

About the weekend. It was fabulous. Since I do not have a personal computer, I will not be posting pictures for awhile. Sorry. Most of my family was here: Grandma, Nana, Papaw, and Uncle Earnie. Aunt Kim couldn't make it because she is "great with child".

Matt had his early birthday party Sunday; he had a train party complete with a homemade cardboard train game and train cake. The cardboard train was pretty funny. It consisted of 3 cardboard boxed spray pained silver and decorated with birthday decor. My family affectionately called it the "white trash train". The cake was two large round cakes iced and decorated to look like a green field with a figure 8 track. I bought a birthday themed Tomas to place on top. I baked and iced the cake Saturday night but for some stupid reason decided to make the tracks Sunday morning before church. I was originally going to use red Twizzlers but that was a disaster. Instead, I piped frosting but got into a dilemma when I was finishing the tracks. Lucky me, I had five helpers standing around the table telling me what to do. I was about ready to ice all of them. However, it did turn out cute.

Anyways, the weekend was great. I am so thankful that God has blessed me, Richard, and Matt with wonderful friends and family. We are truly rich.

Technical Problems

Sorry to say but my computer is on the fritz. I think the hard drive is fried; it is doing things that I have never seen. Like we cannot get windows to open. My brother took a look and said it doesn't look good. Thankfully, he is kind enough to let me use his for the moment. I don't know when I will be posting again, maybe in a few days...maybe longer. Pray that we can get our computer fixed and not need to buy a new one. My brother thinks we will probably need a new one.

Talk to you all soon.

I'm Here

Hey all. Sorry I haven't checked in for awhile. To give it to you in a nutshell: Richard was gone last week, then Matt was sick, I've been painting a room, and trying to keep up with things. I haven't felt to inspired to sit down and wrtie. Sorry.

I am excited about this week. My mom is coming today, Richard's parents are coming Friday, we have the Texas Celebration fundraiser, and Matt's birthday party on Sunday. To top it off, my brother is coming on Sunday and is staying for a couple of days. Yeah!

So needless to say, I have a lot going on. I will try to keep you all updated.

Not My Brightest Moment

My car went in the shop yesterday for a "tune up". That means that I get to drive Richard's truck. Yeah!!! His truck is over ten years old, with way over 100,000 miles, and is very difficult for me to drive. Since his truck is so old, it is very tempermental and unpredictable.

For example, there was a time when it died on me in the drive way and then I couldn't get it started. It was because the steering wheel was in the wrong spot and I had the keyhole turned weird.

Sometimes it just decides it doesn't want to start. Those moments are always very exciting for me.

Today was the best one of all. I was getting on the highway, steadily increasing my speed, when all of a sudden, it made this horrible roaring noise. The fastest I could go was 55 mph. If I tried to go any faster it sounded horrible. I was too afraid to pull over because of my fear of it not starting back. So I continued to drive for about 5 miles at 55mph in a 70. I even jiggled the gear shift thinking maybe that's it.

When I finally got home the engine stunk and I knew I had made a boo-boo. Richard showed up soon after and informed me that I was driving in 2 gear. Apparently his gear shift is loose and he forgot to mention that. It shows you are in D but instead you are in 2.

Bottom line, I think we had the wrong car in the shop.

The Green Smoothie and Other Fine Foods

Here are some food highlights from this past week:

  1. Matt chose his own lunch on Friday. Oatmeal, cherry tomatoes with ranch, and a peanut butter-jelly-mozzerella sandwhich. Yes. He wanted cheese on his pb&j. He liked it.

  2. I made the best chocolate cake ever. It was a recipe from the Barefoot Contessa and consisted of a homemade chocolate mocha cake with chocolate mocha frosting. The cake had so much coffee and cocoa that it was almost black.

  3. The green smoothie. Honestly, it looks absolutely digusting but is very good. You blend 1 frozen banana, a handful of fresh baby spinich, and milk. The smoothie looks like split pea soup but tastes like a banana milkshake.

  4. I also baked 2 loaves of homemade whole white wheat bread. For all you Wednesday girls, this was Mandi's recipe. It was the easiest bread recipe I have ever tried. The loaves came out delish and we consumed 1 in a few hours.

Here are some pictures of the mysterious green smoothie. You will notice that in the second picture Matt is actually drinking his smoothie. Happily, I might add.

Starting Early

How many of you hate waking up in the middle of the night needing to go the bathroom, sit down on the toilet, and then fall in because someone forgot to put the seat down? That is one of my biggest pet peeves. Thankfully, my better half is ptetty good in this area, but we still have our moments.

I've always wondered when this hangup with men putting the seat down started. Like, at what point in their life do they decide it is too much trouble to drop the seat when they flush. I have found my answer.

Matt informed me yesterday after going to the bathroom that he "could not put the seat down for the girls." Now I get it. It's not laziness. It's a game that they start training for early in life.

For the Grandmothers

I was reading this weekend and came acoss the following quote:

"Perfect love sometimes does not come until the first grandchild." - Welsh Proverb

It made me smile because I definitely see this with Matt and his grandmothers. We love you!

My Little Genius

Before Christmas, Matt's Nana bought a new camera, a Cannon Rebel. Everytime my eyes fall upon it, I find my self in serious sin. Can you say covet? With a capital C.

Well, I think Matt shares in my love because everytime he sees it, he has to have it too. Honestly, when he "plays" with it, Richard and I are just about pooping our pants. This camera cost more than one of our house payments and if he dropped it...well...let's just say we would be up that well known creek.

Nana is always very nice about letting Matt play with it. While Richard and I are over in the corner changing our pants, she is just laughing at Matthew. However, this was the first time she let him walk off with it and push buttons by himself. In the next picture, you can see the result.

Hmm... you look a little confused Nana. If I remember right, I think you were saying "Oh my gosh, what has he done!?"

I am happy to report that the camera was ok and we are able to pay our house note this month.

By the way, when he was around a year old, he downloaded and bought a video game on her cell phone.
