Great Gift Idea

Have you ever heard of or made cake balls? I hope so because they are pure bliss.
If you have no idea what a cake ball is, let me explain. A cake ball is baked cake and frosting mixed together, rolled into a ball, and then dipped in chocolate or candy coating. In a nutshell, they are a bite size piece of sin. The great thing about them is that you can mix any combination of cake and frosting.

I had forgotten about these little gems until someone mentioned the idea for teacher gifts. I had been trying to figure out what to do for Matt's teachers for Valentine's Day and this sounded perfect. The best part was the cost. Nothing for me because I already had the ingredients in my pantry. I even had the cutie bags; I bought them at Hobby Lobby when they were half off.

They were a HUGE hit with his teachers. They even requested them for Matt's school birthday party in a few weeks, lol.

I cannot believe my baby is old enough to play t-ball!! Isn't he a cutie? I took these at practice last Saturday.
I like how Daddy is watching Matt in he background. I kind of feel sorry for the kid he was helping at the moment.

And this one too!!

Ohh...who is that coach ? He's pretty cute. Maybe I should invite him over sometime.

You've Got to be Kidding!

Today, since Matt was sick, I offered to let him nap in bed with me ( I was desperate for sleep after being up half the night with him). Guess what his answer was....

No!

I was shocked and asked why. He said because his bed was more comfortable and I squirmed too much!! Ha!

Good Morning

One thing I really miss about our old house is the view of the sunset. Our front porch and living room windows faced a field to the west and we saw many spectacular sunsets. On the other hand, there was a house right next door that blocked our view of the sunrise.

In our new home, we never see a sunset but we do get to see a partial sunrise out our backyard. These are some pics from a particularly beautiful one the other morning.

I have to say, if I had to choose, I would rather have the sunrise. There is something wonderful about waking up to this. I love sipping that first cup of morning coffee and watching the sky light up. Don't you love watching the Creator at work?

Life on the "Beach"

We have been hitting the "beach" hard for the past week. When I say beach, I mean The South Beach Diet. We started the change last Sunday and we can already feel results. Richard has been doing phase 1 (no carbs at all) and I have been on phase 2 (limited carbs).

Richard has said that his thoughts seem clearer, he has more energy, and his clothes are already feeling looser. I would have to agree too. We have also noticed a drop in our sugar cravings.

On the first three days of the diet, I consumed so much fish that I thought I would grow gills. We went shopping together on Sunday and I gave Richard the task of picking out some fish for dinner that evening. He comes back to the cart with 3 different fish: sashimi tuna steaks, tilapia, and sockeye salmon. Amazingly, it was him who blew the grocery budget and not me.

I had forgotten how much I actually enjoy this diet, at least when you are on phase 2. The food is so fresh and flavorful. We love fresh fruits and veggies, so this is right up our alley. I didn't realize until a few days into the diet how much of a food rut we were in. We were eating the same things over and over and most of it was not what I really wanted to feed my family. I use to be extremely consciences about what came into my home and I put on my table.

Now, I am not saying all this because I think everyone should jump on the South Beach wagon. I am just excited about feeling better and that our hard work is paying off. If you would like more information on the diet, check out there website here.

A Good Reminder

We had our MOPS (Mother's of Preschoolers) steering team meeting this morning and this scripture was the focus of our devotion:

Colossians 3:12-14 (The Message)

12-14So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.

I can never be reminded too much. Thank you Father.

Another "Matt"versation

Today we were listening to Veggie Tales on the way home from school. Actually, when are we NOT listening to Veggie Tales?? Some songs I love, but the cheeseburger song, don't get me started.

Larry Boy was blaring in the back and Matt was rocking out. When the next song, Lean On Me, came on, Matt got very serious. He looked at me and said "Mommy! You hear this? This is a JESUS song. The other was just a song. But THIS... is a JESUS song."

It took everything I had not to bust out laughing because he sounded like a little Southern Baptist preacher with the emphasis and pause. I'm not sure if I ever thought of Lean On Me as a "Jesus" song but I do now.

What the Dr. Had to Say

We went back to the doctor on Thursday for our blood results. She said "I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that I can't find anything wrong and the bad news is that I can't find anything wrong." So here we are.

She did say that she thinks that I have a mild case of PCOS. She recommends that I get on The South Beach Diet and exercise regularly. We got a gym membership two weeks ago, so I can scratch that off my list. However, cutting out sweets, I still haven't managed to scratch that off completely. My doctor also recommends that I take a baby aspirin daily and begin taking Metformin. In a nutshell, these two meds might help me sustain my next pregnancy. We shall see.

I am not super excited about taking Metformin. It has some nasty side effects that I am not too thrilled about. I wish I could just opt for diet and exercise for a few months and see where that takes us. But since my problem is keeping the baby and not conceiving, I do not want to have a fourth miscarriage in order to figure out if it worked. On the bright side, I should lose some weight. When you combine all three (diet, exercise, and Metformin), they make for a great weight loss program.

All I can do now is follow the doctor's orders and wait and see what God has planned. I am reminded of what He told me before the miscarriage "wait on me and I will take care of you." That's all we can do, right?
